From my testing the performance of the DAC5 is very impressive compared to other similar priced D/A Converters on the used market. Connected to the Wadia 170i iPod Transport the combo is very listenable and comparable to a High-End CD player costing many thousands of dollars more.

This combo would arguably offer much greater flexibility and usability over a dedicated CD Player with a comparable inbuilt DAC.
