Dr Hi-Fi's Recommended
Components

This list was designed to help you guys
decide what equipment might suit your application best and what I personally
think represents the best product in each category. It is made up only of
products that I have actually used and have experience with. From your e-mails and phone
calls I acknowledge this critical area of information to my Hi-Fi loving public
has been lacking for quite some time. I am aware that there is a general sense
of confusion out there and anxiety about whether or not what audiophiles desire
will provide full satisfaction.
The 'Best Value For Money' category
represents components that I feel offer outstanding value considering their
price point. Each item still offers amazing performance but it was carefully
selected from the vast Hi-Fi market place out there today for its outstanding
cost to performance ratio. They are not necessarily the lowest cost components
in their class but ones that are more then worth what you pay. I have had more
then one customer trying to 'save' money by using voodoo logic and buying lower
costs items than what I recommended or even they themselves know will be
adequate only to be severely disappointed with their purchase and consequently
end up wasting 100% of their investment. Strangely enough customers never
complain when a new component offers greater performance then what they expected
even if they have to pay two or three times more to get it. Think about that for
a minute before making your next purchasing decision or up-grade. I know if I
was asking the question from someone in my position I would want the straight up
answer because I would not want to use less than this level of excellent
performing components in my system so nor will I recommend anything less to my
customers.
The 'Best Performance For Money' category
represents components that I feel offer outstanding performance with cost being
a secondary consideration. They are not the most expensive components in their
respective category either but they are components that from my testing offer
real day in day out no-nonsense bone crushing performance for their cost price
which are technically at the cutting edge with what is possible today.
Components in this category are not listed with any bias stemming from their
reputation, high price, reviews or marketing propaganda. They are listed to
inform the customer who commands a premium reference grade product that is well
above the level attainable by the surrounding competition in their respective
price ranges.
