I Will Not Buy Valve Equipment Because

Vacuum Tubes Wear Out

by James Leahy

I have heard this illogical statement time and time again from confused customers who believe for some unknown reason that their equipment should never need servicing after the day they buy it for all of eternity. This, as the more educated amongst us will realize is pure voodoo logic. When I ask them if they drive a car they say, "Of course". This then begs the question, have they not thought about how many consumables a motor vehicle uses?

Petrol, oil, tires, brake pads and the list goes on. However the same people who put down valve components for needing tube replacement at periodic intervals have no problem with the servicing of other mechanical or electrical devices they use everyday. I do not understand this reasoning.

This premise should not be the single most determining factor in your purchasing decision. It is the sound quality that should govern your decision not insignificant details like these.

If people never wanted to service their equipment there would not be any turntables, with belts and cartridges needing replacement. No CD players either with Laser Mechanism needing replacement. Servicing your equipment is a fact of life so I suggest you get used to it.
